Advanced C Programming

This seminar is a practical discussion of advanced C programming topics. The emphasis is on topics which will advance the knowledge and capabilities of the C programmer.

Topics to be covered include:

• File access methods
  • Files (UNIX I/O)
  • Standard I/O (Streams)
  • RMS File Access
  • Embedded SQL (using Oracle RDBMS)
• Bit Operations
• Pointers
• Advanced Data Types
  • Dynamic Memory Allocation
  • Multidimensional arrays
  • Enumerated Data Types
  • Defined Types
  • Unions
  • Storage Classes (auto, const, extern, register, static, volatile, globaldef, globalref, globalvalue, noshare, readonly, _align)
• The Preprocessor (Macros and conditional compilation)
• Command Line Arguments
• The ANSI Standard
• Accessing System and Foreign Language Routines

The goal of this seminar is to allow the attendee to understand and utilize the advanced functions of the C language. Various issues involving code portability and understandability will also be considered.

Prerequisites of Attendees:

Attendees should be familiar with the C language through actual programming experience or attendance of the Introduction to C seminar. Because many of the topics are not environment specific, experience on a particular platform is not required. Exposure to UNIX or OpenVMS may be helpful.
